PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas hydrate production controlling agent which has an activity to inhibit the production of the gas hydrate and an activity to attain equilibratory and kinetic stabilization of the gas hydrate in combination, and to provide a method for controlling the production of the gas hydrate. SOLUTION: The gas hydrate production controlling agent is characterized by comprising a compound of the formula (1) (wherein, R denotes an alkyl group which may have a substituent; n denotes an integer of 1 or 2; R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>each denotes hydrogen atom or each independently denotes a 1-3 C alkyl group; and X denotes a substituent containing an amide structure and having a 1-6 C hydrocarbon group). Also the method for controlling the production of the gas hydrate is characterized by adding the compound of the formula (1) to a system that is capable of producing the gas hydrate.
