摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform work by protecting a cutter unit so that no excessive torque is applied thereto without lowering an excavation speed by its header in the operation of small-bore pipe burying machine. SOLUTION: A torque applied to a cutter 11 provided in the header 4 in the excavation is changed in a soil removal cycle of a slurry transfer means 17, right after entering in a suction process, though instantaneously, the earth pressure applied to the header 4 becomes extremely small and the driving force of the header becomes extremely large, so that the torque of the cutter 1 abruptly increases. However, when a direction changeover valve 55 of the slurry transfer means 17 is changed over and it is shifted to the suction process, a flow control valve 66 is operated interlocked with the changeover operation of the direction changeover valve 55, a flow rate to the driving jack 5 is reduced, the driving force of the header 4 by the driving jack 5 is lowered, and the intrusion amount of the cutter 11 of the header 4 into the soil is reduced.
