PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce jitter in pixel display of an optical element constituting a display or the like. SOLUTION: This optical element is a fiber waveguide type optical element which has a core part 12 consisting of a medium having flow property in a pipe shaped clad part 11, a light source 21 for introducing light into the core part 12, a liquid sending means 22 for pouring a medium into the inside of the clad part and moving the medium in a forward direction or a reverse direction, a light detecting means 30 which detects light to be released from the end face of the medium in the clad part 11 and makes a position and time where and when the light is released signals, and a control part 24 for controlling the timing of the light to be emitted from the light source 21. The element adjusts a pixel display position by controlling light emission timing from the light source 21 with the control part 24 in accordance with signals from the light detecting means 30.
