PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a vehicle which securely prevents nonconformity such as instantaneous retreat of a vehicle during a little while from disconnection of power transmission to connection even in changing speed change steps of a stepped change gear in an upslope. SOLUTION: A retreat regulation control means 17 controls an engagement element (B-1, for example) to selectively engage and regulates backward rotation of driving wheels. Such nonconformity as to give uncomfortableness to a driver as the vehicle retreats instantaneously during a little while from disconnection of power transmission to connection between an engine 2 and the driving wheels when speed gears of a transfer 8 are shifted on an upslope especially, is thus securely prevented.
