PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing paper having good texture, touch and turn-over facility and scarcely generating the web breakage on a paper machine or printing press. SOLUTION: The paper contains a softening agent and has a breaking length of≤4 km. The product of three factors consisting of the density of the paper manufactured by a paper machine, the breaking length in the paper-making direction and the Young's modulus in the paper-making direction is set within the range of 2×10<SP>18</SP>to 10×10<SP>18</SP>g.N/m<SP>4</SP>, preferably 2×10<SP>18</SP>to 5×10<SP>18</SP>g.N/m<SP>4</SP>. The softening agent is added to the paper stock before paper-making in an amount of 0.1-5 wt.% based on the bone-dry weight of the pulp. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
