The method involves an automatic test device (4) successively receiving test data signals from a test list (3) and generating state changes in the test object (2) in accordance with the test data signals, reading internal functional signals in the test object generated by the state changes via an external interface (9) and forming assessment data records from the test data signals and internal functional signals.
