A vehicle washing apparatus comprises six prefabricated arched frames 21-26 which can be rigidly secured together, end-to-end, the frames supporting cladding 31, and overlapping roof sections 27-30. The frames 21 and 22 support brush mechanisms 51 and 52 respectively; the mechanisms comprising rotatable brushes 71 suspended, with their axes vertical, from overhead arms 72 carried pivotally by further overhead arms 73, and biasing means which maintain the arms in their normal positions as shown in Fig. 1. The arms 72 may be folded back on the arms 73 so as to bring the brushes 71 into a suitable position for shipping the frame. The frames 21, 22, and 23 also support horizontal rotatable brushes 53 and 54 for washing the vehicle roof, reciprocating wheel scrubbing brushes 55 and 56, window brush mechanisms 57 and 58, side panel brushes 59 and 60 and oscillating spray pipes 63. The frame 24 supports a boiler and heater system 64 and a pump unit 141, the frame 25 an electrical control panel 61, and the frame 26 an air blowing drying mechanism 62. The frames include channelled cross-members 171, 172 and channelled vertical post members 181, 182, 183, 184 which, when bolted to the equivalent members on an adjacent frame, form cross-members or posts having I-shaped cross-sections. |
