Use of an amide to reduce the lubricant temperature in a diesel engine

A method of lubricating a sump-lubricated internal combustion engine equipped with exhaust gas recycle with a lubricant comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) 0.05 to 1 percent by weight of an amide of an aliphatic carboxylic acid, and (c) at least one additional dispersant, detergent, or anti-wear agent, which exhibits reduced temperature of the lubricant in the sump.
