PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molding mold which can easily and surely manufacture a plastic substrate for a hard disk in which the surface roughness of the substrate is small and which has a flat substrate surface and a method for manufacturing the mold. SOLUTION: A sapphire plate 16 of 200μm thickness which is cut from a sapphire column of an alumina (Al2O3) single crystal and cut off in the same shape as the surface shape of a molding is mounted on a cavity surface 15 of a fixed side mold of the cavity 8 of a mold and held on the cavity surface 15 by being vacuum-sucked by a suction hole 17.
