PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an octopus catcher with which a yield is increased by making an octopus not to go out if the octopus enters the catcher once, the lightening of the weight and cleaning of the inside are facilitated and which is neither rolled nor moved even in the case of a severe current. SOLUTION: The catcher has a constitution that an elastic member 5 for energizing a lid 3 in a closing direction and a lid latching means 8 composed of a broken-type link for latching the lid 3 in an opened state against the elasticity of the elastic member 5 are arranged between a catcher body 1 and the lid 3 and the inside of the catcher body 1 is furnished with a lid latching and releasing means 9 composed of a suspender, etc., with which the octopus is liable to be entangled. The catcher body 1 is equipped with a retention member 20 for securing the closed state of the lid 3, a plurality of water holes 23 and 24 are installed along the bottom wall 22 of the catcher body 1 and the bottom is equipped with a weight and leg-fitting part 27.
