PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high speed continuous casting method for medium carbon steel for continuously casting the steel at a high-speed, and stably without developing longitudinal cracks. SOLUTION: In continuously casting the medium carbon steel containing 0.07-0.22 by mass % of carbon at a casting speed of 2.0 m/min or higher, the quantity of heat extraction from mold defined as Q=q.ρ<SB>w</SB>.C<SB>w</SB>.ΔT/(A.V<SB>c</SB>.ρ<SB>s</SB>) is controlled in a range of 4.0-9.0 MJ/t. wherein Q represents the quantity of extraction of mold heat (MJ/t), q represents the quantity of mold cooling water (m<SP>3</SP>/min),ρ<SB>w</SB>represents the specific gravity of water (t/m<SP>3</SP>), C<SB>w</SB>represents the specific heat of water (MJ/t.°C),ΔT represents the difference in temperature of the cooling water between the mold entrance side and exit side (°C), A represents surface area (m<SP>2</SP>) of a mold copper plate, V<SB>c</SB>represents the casting speed (m/min) andρ<SB>s</SB>represents the specific gravity of steel (t/m<SP>3</SP>).
