The safety valve for a gas cooking plate has the valve (2) mounted in a metal seating (3) in the plate. A thermocouple to detect a flame is connected to the vlave and an electric control circuit (6). The valve has an obturator (2a) and a solenoid (4) connected to the obturator by a movable armature. The solenoid has a U frame with a main coil (4b) supplied by the thermocouple, and a secondary coil (4a) fed by the control circuit.
