PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sodium-sulfur battery of which, battery characteristics is improved by restraining the increase of sulfur density in the vicinity of the surface of a solid electrolyte, and by reducing the density distribution in a positive electrode chamber. SOLUTION: The sodium-sulfur battery comprises a negative electrode chamber housing a negative active material containing sodium, a positive electrode chamber 14 arranged on the outside of the negative electrode chamber, housing a positive electrode area 13 composed of many sheets of carbon fiber fabric 12 impregnated with positive active material containing sulfur, a solid electrolyte 15 located between the negative electrode chamber and the positive electrode chamber 14, separating the negative active material from the positive active material, having sodium ion conductive property, and an external cylinder 16 housing the negative electrode chamber and the positive electrode chamber. The large number of pieces of carbon fiber fabric 12 are arranged in a direction oblique to horizontal direction so that the external cylinder 16 side is located on the upper side and the solid electrolyte 15 side is located on the lower side.
