MATRIX SURROUND DECODING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix surround decoding apparatus in which an optimal output mode is automatically set in accordance with kinds of input sources when performing matrix surround decoding of the input sources of two channels.

SOLUTION: The matrix surround decoding apparatus is provided with: a DIR 10 for detecting a sampling frequency FS contained in a stereo source; and a microcomputer 12 for determining the kind of the stereo source on the basis of the sampling frequency detected by the DIR 10 and outputting a mode switching signal CL for switching the output mode of a matrix surround decoder 11 into a mode corresponding to the determined kind of the stereo source to the matrix surround decoder 11.
