PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document image pickup unit which eliminates the need for reconnection of a cable and a switching device for the cable and can receive data from an external device and output the data to a display device same as image data picked up by itself. SOLUTION: The document image pickup unit includes a communication interface (hereinafter a communication I/F) 46 for connecting with a communication line (not illustrated), a memory 47 for transmission and reception, and a data processing circuit 48. The communication I/F 46 receives data sent from at least one terminal device connected to the communication line through the communication line and a data processing circuit 48 converts the received data into data for output which can be outputted to a display device 15.
