<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance precision in deriving a road parameter. <P>SOLUTION: An ECU 3 performs differential treatment of concentration values of all the pixels in an image picked-up by a CCD camera 1 to form an edge image, Akaike's information criteria is applied to the formed edge image, AIC (Akaike's information criteria) is calculated in each of a linear road model and a curved road model, the smaller one out of the calculated AICs is determined as the optimum road model, and road parameters a<SB>0</SB>-a<SB>2</SB>for determining the determined road model are calculated by a method of least squares. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
