A system and method are disclosed for forming and reentering multiple latera l wells (136) through a wall of a common well bore (112). The system includes and anchor (122), and orienting member (126), and extension member (126), a diverter (128) and a probe (140) releasably connected by one or more unilateral connections (152) and a multilateral connection (162). The unilateral connection (152) restricts rotational and translational movement of the system upon makeup, and maintains alignment between components thus join ed in a single direction. The multilateral connection (162) also restricts rotational and translational movement of the system upon makeup, however, enables alignment between components thus joined in multiple directions. Thu s, use of the system enables lateral orientation of the diverter (128) at multiple positions, positioning the diverter (128) at multiple longitudinal positions and selective reentry of each lateral well (136) formed.
