The belt conveyor unit (1) comprises a conveyor belt (2) lying upon spaced apart support elements (3) extending at right angles to the direction of feed. A sub-support element (8) for a side edge region (7) of the belt is installed between two support elements and extends in the direction of feed. Each support element has a length at right angles of the direction of feed which is less than the width (B) of the conveyor belt. The sub-support element may be also provided in the region of the support element. An independent claim is included for a loader or suchlike for bituminous or concrete building material.
