The belt conveyor unit (1) comprises a conveyor belt and stripper for the removal of material adhering to the belt. The stripper (4) is movable by an operating device (5) between a position where it lies upon the conveyor belt (2) and a position where it is moved off the conveyor belt. The stripper is pivot-mounted, and a sensor is provided to establish belt movement in the direction of feed and/or a belt stationary state, and to control the operating device which is in the form of a piston and cylinder assembly, preferably hydraulically operated. An independent claim is included for a load or suchlike which is equipped with the belt conveyor unit.
