FIELD: operation of sealed metal-hydrogen storage batteries. SUBSTANCE: in compliance with invention procedure determining charging time of sealed metal-hydrogen storage battery includes measurement of hydrogen pressure in storage battery, measurement of battery temperature, determination of present level of state of charge of battery by measured values, comparison of present level of state of charge of battery with specified values of upper and lower levels of state of charge of battery and determination of time interval required for charging by specified values of battery temperature and self-discharge. Temperature range of battery under mode of charging at which optimal charging conditions of battery with specified currents in fixed time interval are ensured is established in advance. In process of self-discharge of battery from upper level of state of charge to lower level temperature changes of battery and present value of level of its state of charge are recorded and time intervals permissible for battery charging in which limits battery temperature will not fall outside boundaries of temperature range established beforehand are found. Implementation of condition of excess of lower level of state of charge of battery from start of present time interval to start of next time interval permissible for charging are checked before start of each time interval permissible for charging. If it is not implemented charging is carried out in present permissible for charging time interval, otherwise above-mention condition is checked in next time intervals permissible for charging. EFFECT: determination of optimal time for charging of sealed metal-hydrogen storage battery with specified currents to specified state of charge with due account of outside heat flows acting on sealed metal-hydrogen storage battery. 2 cl, 5 dwg
