PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an injection molding machine which improves the dimensional precision of a molded product by controlling the rapid receding of a screw after V/P changeover, and a control method. SOLUTION: In the control device for an injection molding machine which executes a molding cycle including an injection step and a dwelling step, a receding velocity limiting device is provided which, after starting the pressure control in the dwelling step, limits the receding velocity of the screw to a preset screw receding velocity limiting value.
