PURPOSE: A DNA marker associated with genetic obesity and a method for diagnosis of genetic obesity using the same are provided, thereby anticipating the possibility of obesity generation. CONSTITUTION: DNA marker associated with genetic obesity comprising single base mutation region wherein the base at position 292, A, is substituted by G in the nucleotide sequence of human uncoupling protein 1(UCP1) gene registered under accession number U28479 in NCBI Genebank is provided, wherein the DNA marker comprises an allele A with a restriction enzyme BclI recognition site and an allele G without the restriction enzyme BclI recognition site. A method for diagnosis of genetic obesity comprises the steps of: (1) collecting DNA from the blood of a testing person; (2) PCR-amplifying a gene region containing a base at position 292 of human uncoupling protein 1 gene registered under accession number U28479 in NCBI Genebank using a primer capable of amplifying the restriction enzyme BclI recognition site; (3) digesting the amplified DNA with BclI; and (4) determining the genotype of the uncoupling protein 1 gene from the band size of digested DNA fragments.
