PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a butterfly valve in which flow of fluid is improved when a valve body is opened to a small opening. SOLUTION: A valve body 6 comprises a disc-like central body part 9 and a circumferential plate part 10 formed on the periphery of the central body part 9 as a plate thinner than the central body part 9 and slidably contacting with a valve casing sealing ring 3 at a fully closed position. The thickness of the valve body 6 is gradually reduced in a circular arc shape from the outer peripheral part of the central body part 9 to the inner peripheral edge of the circumferential plate part 10.
