PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a valve characteristic by a simple structure in a damping force adjusting hydraulic buffer. SOLUTION: A piston 5 connected to a piston rod 8 is fitted in a cylinder 2 in which oil is enclosed. Disc valves 18, 19 are mounted on extending-side and contracting-side oil passages 14, 16 of the piston 5, and a magnet 20 is mounted opposite to the disc valves 18, 19. Yokes 6, 7 are formed on both ends of the piston 5, and a coil 22 is included in the yoke 6. The coil 22 is energized through a conductor 23 to allow a magnetic field to act on the magnet 20 from the coil 22, whereby attraction forces to the disc valve 18, 19 of the magnet 20 are adjusted, valve opening pressures of the disc valves 18, 19 can be adjusted, and a damping force (valve characteristic) can be adjusted.
