PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber having high heat resistance, moisture resistance and chemical resistance and a low transmission loss. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing a plastic optical fiber, a fused material of a crystalline perfluoro resin is molded and stretched to obtain a core material, and then a clad layer made of a perfluoro fluorocarbon resin having a refractive index lower than that of the core material is formed on the core material during molding or before or after stretching.
