PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quicken the attenuation of rocking of a projection type marking device, and to prevent the marking device from falling sideward when it is miniaturized and flattened. SOLUTION: In this marking device wherein a projection device 3 for projecting a horizontal or vertical reference line is supported pendulously, a downward U-shaped copper plate 4 is mounted on the lower end of the projection device 3, and a magnet 8 is installed so as to be positioned between the U-shaped copper plate 4 on the inner bottom face of the marking device body 1, and a U-shaped yoke 5 is installed so as to sandwich the U-shaped copper plate 4 from the outside. In addition, a projecting step 10 and a rotor plate 11 are provided on the bottom face of the device body 1, and the rotor plate is rotated by 90 degrees and hereby the shape of the device bottom face is changed into a cross shape, to thereby prevent the device from falling sideward, and the rotor plate is used also as an operation knob for a main switch 14.
