PURPOSE: A method for controlling ice separation of an automatic ice maker is provided to improve efficiency and reliability by allowing the ice maker to sense a breakdown of ice separation due to trouble of a heater and to stop controlling ice separation so as to determine the trouble of the heater. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises the steps of: a step(S41,S42) for sensing temperature of an ice making container through a temperature sensor after driving a heater to separate ice in the ice making container from the ice making container; a step(S43,S44,S45) for stopping the heater if temperature of the heater reaches the temperature sensed by the temperature sensor, and determining whether driving time of the heater passes fixed time if the temperature of the heater has not reached the temperature sensed by the temperature sensor and stopping the heater if the driving time of the heater has reached the fixed time; a step(S46,S47) for separating ice in the ice maker by driving an ejector after stopping the heater; a step(S48) for sensing change of movement of the ejector using a Hall sensor of an ice maker, and outputting position signal to a microcomputer of the ice maker; a step(S49) in which the microcomputer receives the signal of the Hall sensor and stops ice separation control when the ejector reaches stroke distance enough to discharge ice; and a step(S50,S51,S52) in which the microcomputer stops the ejector and shows on a display window that the heater is out of order if working of the ejector has not completed after fixed time has passed since the ejector starts working.
