An image data compression method is an image data compression method reducing isoplethic planes of a triangle generated according to three-dimensional data. For the isoplethic plane generated, triangles are successively extracted starting from a smaller one and it is decided whether the error generated when the triangle is deleted is within an allowable range by using a representative point of the triangle. When the error is within the allowable range, the triangle is deleted and an adjacent associated triangle is deleted or changed. When the error is out of the allowable range, the triangle is not deleted, the next triangle is extracted, and the same processing is performed to the next triangle.
