The side stand (4) for bicycles has a housing (7) upon which is suspended a support foot (6) which is pivotable between a folded state for orientating in the longitudinal direction of the bicycle, and an extended position for orientating downwards at an angle to support the bicycle. The support foot is lockable in both of the aforesaid positions. A displacement mechanism (13) is provided to push back the support foot by spring force (F) into the support position if the stand has past the support position.
