1,273,070. Cytolytic enzyme. CHUGAI SEIYAKU K.K., and H. IIZUKA. 5 March, 1970 [12 March, 1969], No. 10734/70. Heading C3H. A cell-wall lytic .enzyme produced by Micropolyspora sp. is characterized by: (a) being stable at a pH range of from 5À0 to 9À0, the optimum pH being in the range of from 7À0 to 8À0, (b) being active at a temperature of from 40‹ to 70‹ C., particularly, from 50‹ to 60‹ C., (c) being substantially stable at a low temperature, and not being inactivated at a temperature of 0‹ C. and inactivated at a temperature of 100‹ C. for 10 minutes, (d) being easily soluble in water and dilute salts solution but insoluble in acetone, (e) being inhibited strongly by Ag<SP>+</SP>, Cu<SP>++</SP>, Hg<SP>++</SP>, Fe<SP>++</SP>, Zn<SP>++</SP>, Cd<SP>++</SP>, Ni<SP>++</SP> <SP>+</SP> and moderately by Mn<SP>++</SP>, Co<SP>++</SP>, but activated by Mg<SP>++</SP> and (f) having cell-wall lyric activity at least on Candida rugosa, Candida krusei, Candida utilis, Candida psezidotropicaiis, Candida parapsilosis, Candida lipolytica, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces chevalieri, Pichia membranaefaciens, Hansenula anomala and Schizo-saccharomyces pombe. The enzyme may be produced by culturing a microorganism of the genus Micropolyspora and isolating the enzyme from the cell-free medium.
