PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for uniformly cooling wire rod are provided to manufacture wire rod coil having improved tensile strength and tensile strength deviation by changing linear speed of a part of rollers contacted with wire rod coil in Stelmor cooling facility, thereby uniformly cooling the wire rod. CONSTITUTION: In an apparatus for uniformly cooling the coiled hot rolled wire rod after hot rolling wire rod and coiling the hot rolled wire rod, the apparatus for uniformly cooling the wire rod comprises a plurality of first rollers which are continuously arranged in a width direction to transfer the wire rod, and at one side end of which sprockets having the same size as the plurality of first rollers are installed so that the plurality of first rollers are driven to an equal straight linear speed; and second rollers which are continuously arranged in a width direction to transfer the wire rod, and at one side end of which sprockets having large diameter and more number of teeth compared to the sprockets of the first rollers are installed so that the second rollers are driven to a straight linear speed different from the first rollers.
