<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of impregnating an inner surface of a porous metal pad with a polymer film chemically similar to a polymer to be used in a bonding step and a method of making orthopaedic implant having a porous metal surface by bonding such an impregnated pad to the orthopaedic implant. <P>SOLUTION: The orthopaedic implant having the porous metal surface is provided with three layers including a biocompatible metal core of desired shape, a polymer intermediary layer, and a surface layer comprising a porous biocompatible metal and shaped appropriately to act as the surface of the orthopaedic implant. A core 415 and a pad 300 are placed in an injection molding device wherein the polymer intermediary layer is injection molded between the pad and the metal core, thereby bonding the pad 300 to the metal core 415. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
