PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely accumulate all the paper sheets irrespective of firmness of the paper sheet. SOLUTION: This accumulator 1 has a main conveying passage 4 for conveying a mail P, a gate 8 provided on the main conveying passage 4, an accumulation part 10 for accumulating the mails P, a guide plate 18 for face- contacting with the mail P directed to the accumulation part 10 to guide it via the gate 8, and a screw 21 for feeding a conveying-directional rear end of the pushed-in mail P toward the already accumulated mail P<SB>2</SB>in an end part. A protruded portion 19 for separating the rear end of the mail P relatively weak in firmness contacted closely with the guide plate 18 is protruded in a midway of the guide plate 18.
