SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes exposure of surface of material of batch and/or single lump of ore to X-radiation and optical radiation. Parameters of roentgen fluorescent spectrum and reflected optical radiation demonstrating color characteristics are recorded on one and the same areas of said surface. Used as separation criterion Ki is combination of measured characteristics and parameters and/or indices of their spatial inhomogeneity Ki = F{SRj; SLj; SR2j; SL2j; Mj}, where SRj are parameters of spectrum characteristic fluorescent roentgen radiation of material recorded from area; SLj are parameters of spectrum of reflected optical radiation recorded from j-area; Mj = f{SRi.SLj} are characteristics of interdependence between parameters of spectrum of roentgen and optical radiation of area of surface of material of batch and/or single lump of ore obtained experimentally on standard specimens; j is present number of lump of ore.
