Polyesters capable of being drawn into fibres are made from 99-70 (pref. 98-95%) mole% of a terephthalic acid or its derivs able to form esters, with 1-30 (pref. 2-15) moles% of methoxy-5-isophthalic acid and with ethylene gylcol. Used for drawing fibres which less tendency to crystallise and which have good physical properties and colour. 2-5% (moles) of methoxy-5-isophthalic acid gives a polymer drawable at lower temps. With 5-10% (moles) of methoxy-5 isophthalic acid, drawing produces less broken fibres and gives a good coloured fibre.
|
