<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an individual authentication apparatus whose security is improved by allowing only the person himself or herself or specified persons to delete and rewrite fingerprint data, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus is equipped with a fingerprint sensor 1, a fingerprint control part 2, an application control part 3, an initialization control part 4, a basic control part 5, and a storage part 6. In concrete, fingerprint data D1 can be inputted by using the fingerprint sensor 1. Only a specified individual can register, collate, and delete the fingerprint data D1 by the fingerprint control part 2, execute an application program P5 in the storage part 6 by the application control part 3, and receive an application program P4 from outside. Further, only a specified person at a factory can initialize the storage part 6 by the initialization control part 4.
