PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a distortion compensating amplifier that can accurately compensate distortion, using a simple circuit configuration. SOLUTION: The distortion compensating amplifier comprises an amplifier 3, where an amplified output signal may contain a distortion component; a level determining means L for judging whether the amplitude of an input signal is equal to or less than a specific value; a first detecting means 5 for detecting the amplitude of the input signal; a second detecting means 6 for detecting the amplitude of the output signal; an amplitude control means 2 that is inserted into the front stage of the amplifier for connection and controls the amplitude of a signal, that is introduced to the amplifier so that the difference or the ratio of the amplitude detected by the first and second detection means converges; and an amplitude control signal retention means SH for retaining an amplitude control signal, according to the determined output signal from the level determining means.
