摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the S/N ratio of an image signal obtained from an image pickup element by effectively controlling the temperature of the image pickup element and to reduce the burden of a built-in battery. SOLUTION: An image pickup device 1 is provided with image pickup means 4 and 5 for converting an image obtained from an optical system into an image signal and outputting the image signal, a thermoelectric element 9 for controlling temperature inside the image pickup device (5) and an electrical conduction control means 6 for controlling electrical conduction to the thermoelectric element 9. The electrical conduction control means 6 is configured so as to control electrical conduction according to operation contents of the image pickup device 1. Then, electrical conduction to the thermoelectric element 9 is restricted in an operation with a large amount of a consumption current, and electrical conduction is applied to the thermoelectric element to be able to control temperature in an operation with a small amount of the consumption current, reducing a burden to a power supply, which makes it possible to effectively cool the inside of the image pickup device.
