PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formation method of a lead-acid battery, capable of completing formation in a short time without impairing battery characteristics. SOLUTION: The maximum current of a formation current sent until the potential of a negative electrode rises at the initial stage of the formation of the lead-acid battery is larger than the maximum current of a formation current sent afterward. Thereby, since once the formation of a negative electrode is complete, a potential rises, and thereby, heating by Joule's heat starts, a temperature rise in a battery due to heating is suppressed by lowering the formation current after completion of formation, and battery performance is prevented from being lowered.
