PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a computer system for managing storage areas provided in a plurality of the storage devices of different control methods altogether and allocating the storage area to a computer as needed. SOLUTION: A storage management program which unitarily manages the storage areas is provided with a device control library for providing the control programs of various external storage devices and a device information data base for discriminating the control program of the device, and manages a plurality of the external storage devices having the different control methods. Also, when a host computer releases an unrequired storage area, an LU not to be used from any host computers is deleted inside the external storage device and it is managed as an unused area where the LU can be newly prepared.
