PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable to efficiently carry out heating of a part to be pinch-sealed without generating thermal deformation at or adhering a silica sublimation matter on a luminous tube part, in a pinch-sealing process of an arc tube. SOLUTION: Just before applying a pinch-sealing at a part to be pinch-sealed 20b1' of a quartz glass tube 20' with a luminous tube part 20a formed, the part to be pinch-sealed 20b1' is heated with a pair of burners 52. Here, air spray nozzles 54 are arranged in the vicinity of top end parts of the burners 52 (in the vicinity of the end parts on the luminous tube 20a side), and air is sprayed form the air spray nozzles 54 in the direction of a boundary area A1 between the luminous tube part 20a of the quartz glass tube 20' and the part to be pinch-sealed 20b1'. With this, an air curtain is formed around the boundary area A1, which is to prevent the luminous tube 20a from directly exposed to flame of the burners 52. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
