The system has a tower with a rotary gondola on a vertical axis and a rotor on a horizontal axis, a sensor of the mechanical load on the rotor and an evaluation device, especially a data processor. At least one, preferably each, rotor blade (10) has at least two sensor elements, preferably mounted as pairs. The evaluation device produces load evaluation signals based on the associated sensor element signals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a regulating arrangement for an inventive wind energy system (b) and a method of operating an inventive wind energy system.
