Described is a closure element including a sealing element or polymer liner compound having improved barrier properties. The sealing element or compound includes (a) a thermoplastic polymer; and (b) an effective absorbing amount of a cyclodextrin material. The cyclodextrin material is selected from the group comprising alpha-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin, gamma-cyclodextrin, derivatives of alpha-cyclodextrin, beta-cyclodextrin and gamma-cyclodextrin and mixtures thereof.
