The tool for lifting trees with their root ball or articles with a concrete base comprises two jaws (1), each of which has a lever (2) attached to its back. When this is raised a block (4) presses against the back of the jaw and a second block (5) behind this locks it in place. The levers are linked by chains (6) which fit over hooked plates (7) on their sides, allowing the articles to be carried.
