PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an armature so as to be softly seated on a solenoid coil or core at the final stage with high assurance by smaller power consumption of the initial drive of the solenoid drive valve of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine comprises: the solenoid drive valve having a valve disc, first and second solenoid drive means, and first and second springs; and a valve opening/closing control means for controlling the opening/closing of the valve by controlling the energization of the first and second solenoid drive means. In this engine, the valve opening/closing control means is controlled so as to start supplying of exciting current to an electromagnetic coil via a predetermined phase transition from the start of the motion of the armature toward the coil at the initial drive time for bringing the valve from the stopping state to the operating state.
