PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper for a water closet seat having a self- standing mechanism whereby the seat can stand for itself certainly in the specified position. SOLUTION: The rotary damper 7 is furnished at the front face with a flange 12 whereto a spring part 11 is attached rigidly, and a boss 10 provided on the spring part 11 is engaged with a projection 9 formed on the damper 7, wherein the spring part 11 is arranged in a straddle mounted structure.
