In a textile spinning machine a thread passes between drafting rollers (4, 5) and is surrendered to an air-permeable transport belt (11) in contact with an air suction channel. After leaving the drafting rollers, the thread esp. translates through 30degrees or more, close to but not in contact with the drafting roller, before translating with the belt (11) through 90degrees or more. The initial section of the suction slit is separated from the transport belt by a gap. The transport belt (11) surface is on contact with both the upper and lower drafting rollers.
