PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high-speed navigation and so on by shortening time required for wireless communication. SOLUTION: Navigation is performed by performing bidirectional communication by wireless between a navigation apparatus NAV and a navigation server 18. The navigation apparatus NAV transmits measured position data Dpos outputted from a GPS receiver 10 to the navigation server 18 via a communication apparatus 11, and acquires displaying map data representing a map of a peripheral area comprising its own position by the position data Dpos sent back from the navigation server 18, from the communication apparatus 11. By map-matching the position data Dpos and information on roads contained in the obtained displaying map data, the navigation apparatus NAV finds a current position on a road, causes a display portion 14 to display a picture of a map on the basis of the displaying map data, and displays the current position found by the map matching lapping it over the displayed map.
