PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a focusing at a position off a picture plane center part possibly occurs when a specified area is selected as a focusing detection area based upon the integration of high-frequency wave components in a plurality of areas set on a picture plane when the integrated amount of high-frequency components of a video signal in an initial focusing detection area set at the picture plane center part is lower than a specified level. SOLUTION: When the integrated amount of high-frequency components of the video signal in the initial focusing detection area is lower than the specified level, a focusing control part 10 and a detection area setting part 11 set at least one of a plurality of divided areas of the above-mentioned area as a focusing detection area.
