PURPOSE: A method for producing a composition containing a herbal extract as an effective ingredient is provided. The composition has an effect on suppression of obesity caused by eating high fat and reduces total cholesterol and triglyceride in blood. Therefore, it is used as an adjunct for the prevention and treatment of obesity. CONSTITUTION: A herbal mixture is extracted with water or an aqueous alcohol solution. Thus obtained extract is fermented with a mixture of rice, malted rice and yeast in a weight ratio of 20 to 80:10 to 40:0 to 2. The herbal mixture comprises Cassiae semen, Theae folium, Eucommiae Cortex, Allium scorodoprasm, Crataegi Fructus, green pine needle and Artemisiae capillaris Herba in a weight ratio of 1 to 3:0.5 to 1:2 to 7:1 to 3:0.5 to 1:3 to 7:3 to 7. The aqueous alcohol solution is selected from 5 to 100% ethyl alcohol or 5 to 100% methyl alcohol.
